Interior Design Trends 2020: Akiva Forecasts!

As we are fast approaching the end of 2019 (what a quick year!), we’re already thinking about the new trends that our clients may want to know about. We have design projects booked up right into May 2020 and I am sure we will be using some of the trends below.  So, before we close for Christmas we want to give you some inspiration for the January blues, and get you thinking about replacing the tired living room furniture you hate a little bit more each year, perhaps re-painting to freshen up the whole house, or maybe bringing the outside in?

To inspire your home improvements for the new year ahead, here are our top 5 predictions for design trends in 2020. From familiar paint colours given a new twist to big eye-catching patterns, we hope this gives you some incentive! As the famous quote says “out with the old in with the new!

Fifty Shades Still Big!

The colour grey remains a strong choice for decorating the home. The Dulux colour of the year 2020 is Tranquil Dawn described as a soft green-grey.  Grey mixing seems the trend green-grey, green-blue and we are seeing this make a big appearance in kitchen furniture.   We are moving away from the dark blues and black kitchens and instead bringing in a much softer warm and calming colour.

3D Patterns

Patterns and textures are full on! and everything’s seems multi-dimensional. Lots of material effect and 3D wallpaper.  Bold prints, marble cladding, frosted effect glass can be a great way to update your interiors. Spirals and stripes are also big and make a huge impact when using in a communal or entrance space.

Nature/Botanical

Plants are big for 2020 and not just in pots! We will be seeing miniature indoor gardens, palm prints on fabrics and wallpapers. Interior gardens whether, vertical or hanging, invoke tranquillity and relaxation. It’s a real celebration of nature and prioritising on homes for inner calm and mental health.

Soft Lines

Curves are replacing straight lines for a softer look. Particularly in seating and upholstery. We can expect to see more curved shaped sofas, furniture pieces, lozenge shapes in coffee tables, mirrors and tiles.

Art Deco Elegance

This style is all about expensive sumptuous materials to create the impression of luxury and extravagance. Materials such as copper, gold or stainless steel are used in furniture, and are mixed with plush fabrics such as velvet for chairs, sofas and curtains. Glass and lacquer are also go-to styles.
